🌍 Global Leaders Call for Urgent Climate Action at Geneva Summit

World leaders gathered in Geneva today for the International Climate Action Summit, where renewed calls were made for immediate global cooperation to address the rising threat of climate change.

Representatives from over 80 countries, including the United States, China, Nigeria, Brazil, and members of the European Union, discussed new climate policies aimed at curbing global carbon emissions and promoting sustainable energy.

The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, delivered a powerful keynote speech, urging nations to move “beyond pledges and toward implementation.” He warned that without concrete actions, the world risks “irreversible environmental damage within the next decade.”

Key outcomes from the summit include:

  • A joint fund of $200 billion to support clean energy initiatives in developing countries.
  • A commitment by several industrialized nations to reduce carbon emissions by 60% by 2035.
  • Plans to phase out coal power in 40 countries by 2040.

Climate activists, while cautiously optimistic, emphasized the need for accountability. Greta Thunberg, speaking outside the summit, stated, “Declarations are not enough. The planet needs action now.”

The summit is expected to influence global negotiations at the upcoming UN Climate Conference (COP30) scheduled for November in Brazil.
