๐Ÿ“ฐ Government Launches New Rural Development Program to Boost Agriculture

The federal government has officially launched a new rural development initiative aimed at transforming agricultural communities across the nation. The program, named the Green Roots Project, is expected to directly benefit over 500,000 small-scale farmers within its first year.

Speaking at the launch event in Abuja, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Amina Okon, highlighted the importance of the program in ensuring food security and economic empowerment. โ€œWe are investing in the backbone of our nation โ€” our rural farmers. This initiative will provide them with tools, training, and access to better markets,โ€ she said.

The Green Roots Project includes:

  • Distribution of improved seedlings and fertilizers.
  • Training in sustainable farming techniques.
  • Grants and low-interest loans for agribusiness startups.
  • Rural road construction to ease produce transportation.

Community leaders in affected regions have welcomed the project, calling it โ€œa long-overdue step towards real development.โ€

The government says the project will be monitored in partnership with local NGOs and international development agencies to ensure transparency and efficiency.

This initiative comes as part of a broader strategy to reduce the countryโ€™s reliance on food imports and to create new job opportunities in rural areas.
